Set up your Summit Kids iPad
1. Prepare the station
On a staff device, sign in to Kids administration → Settings. Review the Summit Kids classrooms and Events. The Sunday-night program has its own attendance sessions, separate from Sunday mornings.
Create a pairing code with these rooms: Pathfinders, Climbers, Explorers, Rangers, and Peak Girls. Enter the code on the iPad at Summit Kids station. Codes work once within 10 minutes. Leave “Keep this church iPad connected” checked. Pair once; there is no scheduled station expiration. Staff can revoke a lost or retired iPad under Settings → View / revoke stations.
An existing, unexpired station can be made permanent under Settings → View / revoke stations → Keep connected permanently. Reopen the app on that iPad before its old cookie expires. If it already expired, use a new pairing code once.
Clearing website data, deleting the app, or switching browsers may remove its device credential and require pairing again. The app renews its saved credential when opened; use the same installed app each time.
Sign out of any staff account before handing the iPad to parents. Family phone/PIN access shows only that household. New families can register several children at once. Existing families needing a PIN reset should ask a director.
2. Make it feel like an app
Open the station in Safari. Use Share → Add to Home Screen. Name it “Summit Kids.” Open it from the new icon. If your iPad asks whether to open it as a web app, turn that option on.
Use a church-managed iPad without personal saved passwords or contact autofill. Turn off password and contact AutoFill for this shared station so a parent cannot see or use staff credentials.
Home Screen web apps can have separate cookies from Safari. If the app asks to pair again, create a fresh pairing code and enter it inside the installed app.
3. Lock the iPad to check-in
On your iPad 9, open Settings → Accessibility → Guided Access. Turn it on and set a staff-only passcode. This must be different from a family PIN.
Open Summit Kids, triple-click the Home button, choose Guided Access if prompted, then Start. Keep Touch and the Software Keyboard enabled so parents can fill out forms. Choose a suitable Display Auto-Lock setting for your staffed check-in period.
Only staff should know how to end Guided Access. Authenticate with its passcode to end the session before changing iPad settings. The website cannot turn on Guided Access or prevent someone from leaving the app by itself.
4. Connect and test the printer
Connect the Brother QL-820NWB and iPad to the same trusted Wi-Fi network, or connect the printer to that network by Ethernet. Direct iPad-to-printer USB printing is not part of this website.
Use the staff Settings sample-label button before Sunday. Choose the Brother printer in the print dialog and match the actual label roll. Templates are 62 × 100 mm. Verify one child label and its parent information tag, legible class names and allergy text, and proper cuts. Repeat this test with Guided Access running.
Tap “Labels printed successfully” only after the physical labels have printed. If printing fails, ask the volunteer desk to reprint the existing attendance labels rather than registering the family again.
5. Welcome families
Parents choose Check in or Register a new family. Each child is placed by their current school-year grade and age cutoff. Sixth-grade families choose the appropriate Rangers or Peak Girls group. Unclear placements go to staff for review.
Labels show the child’s name, class, session, allergies when recorded, and program details. Staff select an authorized pickup adult at checkout; Summit Kids does not require a pickup code. Medical/behavior notes are private and do not print.
The shared screen clears after 60 seconds without activity, or 2 minutes while completing new-family registration. Families should use Finish when done. Staff can recover unconfirmed labels through the print queue. A working internet connection is required for check-in.
